Aspects that do not help student learning: Text in the section on air movement does not mention that the planet's equatorial areas receive much more energy from the sun than polar areas. This is the major factor in the uneven heating of Earth. Text focuses on uneven heating of dark materials versus light as well as a limited treatment of the important concept of the different heat capacities of land and water. [NOTE: text in the "Seasons and Climate" section (Chapter 4, pages E76-E85) describe the latitude-based uneven heating of Earth but do not relate this to planetary air movements. These pages are not cited as meeting this standard in the Teacher's Edition that we used.]
