Standard: Show Content Tip
6c Plan and conduct a simple investigation based on a student-developed question and write instructions that others can follow to carry out the procedure.

Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
Moderate coverage of this standard is provided by "Variables" Investigations 3 pages 23-24 and Investigation 4 pages 25-28, "Solar Energy" Investigation 4 pages 24-27, and "Mixtures and Solutions" Investigation 4 pages 25-28.

Aspects that help student learning:
When students develop their own questions (e.g., the last part of the final investigation in each module), the instructional materials provide instructions and forms for completing the investigation and presenting the results.

Aspects that do not help student learning:
There is insufficient emphasis on students writing instructions that others can follow, and critiquing their presentations with respect to this ability. In general, cited Investigations do not teach content in Grade 5 Physical, Life, and Earth Science standards.
