The Teacher's Edition that we used cites many activities as meeting this standard that do not significantly address this standard. |
Aspects that do not help student learning: Few, if any, of the investigations give students the opportunity and ability to truly guide the range of tools available and their selection. Activities also do not help teach significant grade 5 science content. Cited activities that provide only limited coverage are on pages S5, 99, 128, 194-195, 226-227, 330-331, and 348-349. Pages R2-R3 and R6-R17 give students experience with using pre-selected tools, but the emphasis is on qualitative measurements, and there is little or no connection with grade 5 science content.
