Standard:
6h Draw conclusions from scientific evidence and indicate whether further information is needed to support a specific conclusion.
Holistic Rating: In-Depth coverage of this standard.

Only a few of the activities ask students to analyze whether further information is needed to support a scientific conclusion. Most of the activities cited in the Teacher's Edition provide only moderate coverage, and many do not address grade 5 science content.
Activities on pages C46, E16-E17, and E28-E29 provide in-depth coverage. Eleven activities provide moderate coverage of this standard and also address Grade 5 science content (pages A14-A15, A34-A35, A36-A37, A44-A45, A54-A55, B32-B33, C16-C17, C44-C45, C64-C65, D16-D17, and E8-E9).
Pages S2-S11 provide background on science process skills. The Wrap-Up for each Unit (pages A96, B96, C96, D64, and E96) also provide moderate coverage of this standard. |
Aspects that help student learning: Each Unit Wrap-Up asks students to pose a question to investigate, and provides a sample question. The directions then lead students to "Make a Hypothesis," "Plan and Do a Test," "Record and Analyze," and "Draw Conclusions." Examples are provided based on the sample question.
Aspects that do not help student learning: The "Plan and Do a Test" section in the Unit Wrap-Up assumes students will investigate the suggested sample hypothesis rather than investigate their own question! This needs to be clarified for students so they investigate their own questions.
