3a Students know most of Earth's water is present as salt water in the oceans, which cover most of Earth's surface.

Pages B20-B23 provides in-depth coverage of the standard. Pages B27-B28 provides moderate coverage, including a model of the relative amounts of water in different Earth locations (NOTE: pages B27-B28 are not cited for this standard in the Teacher's Edition that we used).
The California Science Framework describes the origin of salt in the ocean, which is not specified in the standard. This concept is explained on pages B22-B23.
