Standard: Show Content Tip
1i Students know the common properties of salts, such as sodium chloride (NaCl).

Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
Pages C78-C83 provide moderate coverage of this standard.

The California Science Framework cites a variety of properties of salts (brittleness, hardness, solubility, electrical conductivity of solutions, etc.). See the CONTENT TIP for this standard for more information.

Aspects that do not help student learning:
Salts are described as resulting from the reactions of acids and bases, concepts that are not integral to these physical science standards. As cited in the CONTENT TIP, a more relevant connection can be made with groups in the periodic table. The ionic nature of salts (pages C73 and C83) is too advanced for this grade level.
