Standard: Show Content Tip
1i Students know the common properties of salts, such as sodium chloride (NaCl).

Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
Activities in "Mixtures and Solutions" Investigation 1 (pages 12-15 and 22-23), Investigation 2 (pages 11-14, and 23-28), and Investigation 4 (pages 11-17, 18-19) teach that salt dissolves, forms characteristic crystals, and has properties of solubility and reactivity. Together with the Science Stories pages 7-10 and 42, they provide moderate coverage.

The California Science Framework cites a variety of properties of salts (brittleness, hardness, solubility, electrical conductivity of solutions, etc.). See the CONTENT TIP for this standard for more information.
