Standard:
2a Students know many multicellular organisms have specialized structures to support the transport of materials.
Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
| Pages A16-A23 provide moderate coverage of this standard for plants. Pages A28-A30 provide moderate coverage of this standard for animals. The sections on the human digestive system (pages A38-A42), human respiratory system (pages A46-A49), human circulatory system (pages A57-A58), and human excretory system (pages A62-A63) all address the standard but neither the text nor the correlations in the Teacher's Edition that we used clearly make that connection. |
Aspects that help student learning: Text provides multiple examples of multicellular transport systems. The Unit Project Link on page A55 provides an excellent opportunity for students to compare transport systems in plants and animals.
Aspects that do not help student learning: Text does not use the terms in the standard (multicellular; specialized structures; transport of materials). Text frequently includes and highlights extraneous terms and concepts that are in neither the science standards nor the science framework for this grade.
