Research + Resources

Part of CAESL’s mission is to bring about greater public understanding of assessment, testing, and accountability issues: its value and limitations, its effect, and its use both in classrooms and at the large-scale level.

This section includes information about publications and projects funded by CAESL, as well as important articles identified by the CAESL team.

We all know something about assessment. Whether as a student ourselves, or as an educator, we have all somehow participated in assessment. Surprisingly, though, we still do not have sufficient knowledge about how assessment works to support student learning as we would like. To address this, CAESL is conducting research and development in four main areas:

  • Assessment Design,
  • Classroom Assessment,
  • Teacher Development, and
  • Public Outreach

As part of our work, CAESL supported graduate students at our three university partners to further their expertise in these areas. Graduate students learn in part through innovative distance-learning courses that are available at all three institutions. Our graduate students give back to the Center by actively participating in CAESL applied research projects.
