Public Outreach

CAESL's Public Outreach working group has been focusing on bringing light to the controversial and often confusing topics of assessment, testing, and accountability. Public understanding remains low, even though the No Child Left Behind Legislation that requires states to meet certain education goals to be measured by statewide assessments has given these topics recent prominence in the media.

Part of CAESL's mission is to bring about greater public understanding of assessment, testing, and accountability issues: its value and limitations, its effect, and its use both in classrooms and at the large-scale level.

Parent Portal is a special web presentation from the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) at UC Berkeley, designed to provide parents with clear and practical advice, active participation tools, and solid math and science resources for helping their children learn. It is a companion site to a book entitled Spark Your Child's Success in Math and Science: Practical Advice for Parents. We encourage you to visit the Parent Portal site.
