Teacher Development

CAESL has been working extensively with preservice and inservice teachers to improve their understanding of quality science assessment systems.

Inservice Teachers

Kathy DiRanna of WestEd and Craig Strang from the Lawrence Hall of Science lead the professional development team for CAESL. The staff currently conducts the CAESL Science Assessment Leadership Academy. Details of what they're working on can be seen on video at the new Apple Learning Interchange.

Preservice Teachers

Susan Schultz from the Stanford Teacher Education Program and Andrea Whittaker from San Jose State University have teamed up to create a new course for preservice teachers that focuses exclusively on assessment. Schultz and Whittaker have piloted their course, and are now making refinements. They hope to ultimately have a set of assessment modules that can be packaged for other instructors of preservice teachers to use in their classrooms.
