Dr. Margaret Geller, Senior Astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will present as part of the UCI Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series.

She is best known for her stunning discovery that the universe has structure spanning unimaginably large scales. By creating the first three-dimensional map of a strip of the universe, she discovered the surprising fact that galaxies are not distributed uniformly, but are organized into enormous filaments and walls that span lengths of millions of light years.

Dr. Geller is a major, nationally-known public figure who has written numerous popular articles and appeared in many films and documentaries. Her accolades are numerous and include membership in the National Academy of Sciences and a MacArthur Fellowship.
