Description:
The Vanguard Learning Center in the Compton Unified School District is a place where students want to come everyday. The staff at Vanguard have made student engagement a priority and that spirit is clear on the campus. One hundred percent of Vanguard's students participate in the free and reduced price lunch program. Of these students, 61% are African American, 37% are Latino, 1% are American Indian, and 28% are English Learners. All of these groups continue to surpass the achievement targets set by the state. In addition, 70% of the teachers at Vanguard have emergency credentials. And yet student achievement continues to rise.
