Information, relationships and identity determine the "state of my system." I cannot teach effectively if the system within which I labor does not provide me with sufficient resources (information and stuff), opportunities to know my students well (personalized relationships) and expect me to engage in inquiry about improving my practice as a teacher (identity). A human-scale sized professional learning community of teachers and students, see Parker Palmer's "The Courage to Teach" in a quest for liberating the goodness and genius of students is required. "Turning to One Another" -- see Margaret Wheatley's book by the same name -- to explore these issues of teaching and learning in an authentic community of inquiry is what we need....
