Dr. Leslie Shelton recently joined the San José Public Library as Community Program Administrator for Early Care and Lifelong Literacy. Prior to coming to San José, she worked for 14 years as the founding director of Project Read, the adult and family literacy program serving in six cities in Northern San Mateo County. Based in the South San Francisco Public Library, Project Read gained national recognition as one of the most innovative adult and family learning programs in the nation by integrating multiple intelligence theory into literacy instruction for low performing readers. Dr. Shelton’s research is focused on the harm caused by the sense of not measuring up to others in childhood.
