The population served in most adult schools is distinctly different than that served in the Community College system, although I acknowledge the need to clarify the delineation of function. In essence Adult Schools are the K-12 for adults, while the Community College system is post secondary. Currently Adult Schools do have clear performance measures -- CASAS increases, GED's passed, CAHSEE, vocational competencies, etc.
The curriculum for Adult Schools needs to match k-12 skill levels, recognizing that adult learner needs are different than children's learning needs. Instruction provided through community colleges needs to address and meet the needs of adults at the post secondary level (generally the adult school student has greater deficits than those going to CC and probably more negative baggage relative to education institutions).
Funding priorities for Adult Ed (in addition to ESL and vocational training) need to include parent education, ABE, and citizenship. education.
