I think this task force will accomplish several things. First of all, it will allow non-credit community college instructors and K-12 adult education instructors to understand about the programs of each.
Both sides have valid arguments. I happen to agree with Doug Baltz, who states that some adult students feel more comfortable with adult school administered through K-12 rather than a college setting. Deborah Shanks also makes a good point about preparing adults for bigger and greater challenges.
Also, the priorities that the Master Plan recommended simply brings 3 of the existing 10 or so established priorities to the top of the list. Basic education, ESL and vocational education should be priorities. This is not to say that adult education programs should neglect other tasks for which they are charged. I believe the task force will be able to determine whether or not these should remain the top priorities for adult education.
