The "value" of adult education should not be measured by the extent to which adult education faculty are underpaid and exploited. If adult education is to provide effective and enduring services to students engaged in lifelong learning, there needs to be a commitment to providing adequate remuneration, staff development, and career tracks to those of us dedicated to teaching adults. This means tenuring teachers, creating full-time programs, and although this may make adult education more "expensive," it will also make it more effective and beneficial for society. We have to develop tracks for our students on which they can steadily develop their skills, broaden their horizons and continue to grow vocationally and academically.
