California Even Start Family Literacy Conference

The California Even Start Office announces the return of its Family Literacy Conference to be held at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport from January 22nd through 24th, 2008. Overall, the Even Start Family Literacy Conference strives to offer family literacy best practices that strengthen the three interrelated Even Start goals of:

• Helping parents improve their literacy or basic education skills
• Helping parents become full partners in educating their children, and
• Assisting children in reaching their full potential as learners.

This conference will focus on the research and strategies for strengthening the participation of parents, parent literacy skills, and parents' support for their child’s development and thus will be pertinent to professionals and families involved in family literacy programs. In particular, attendees at this year’s conference will gain knowledge and strategies pertaining to:

• Research-based or effective adult education/ESL models;
• Research-based or effective adult-child interactive activities, and
• Research-based or effective parent education curricula, approaches, and models
