State Technology Contacts N.R.S. 388.820 through 388.829 Distance Education Distance education is any instruction delivered by video, computer, television, correspondence or the Internet where the instructor and pupil are geographically separated. The deparment of education must prepare and publish a list of approved distance education courses. The board of trustees of a school district must submit an application to the department of education in order to provide a program of distance education. The distance education program may provide for shorter or longer school days than regularly provided, and may be offered during any part of the calendar year. If provided on a full-time basis, the program must provide an equivalent number of hours as a program of 180 days. The board of trustees of a school district providing a distance education program must ensure the program is in compliance with applicable regulations of the school district, including but not limited to, graduation requirements, accountability, attendance, and discipline. Pupils enrolling in a distance education program provided by a school district other than the district in which they reside must first obtain approval from the district in which they reside. http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-388.html#NRS388Sec820 N.R.S. 385.3612 Regulations governing certain alternative programs The State Board is responsible for adopting regulations governing programs of distance education. The progress of students in such programs must comply with the statewide system of accountability. http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-385.html#NRS385Sec3612 N.R.S. 388.780 Educational Technology The Commission on Educational Technology is to prepare a plan for the use of educaitonal technology in public schools which must include recommendations for methods to incorporate edeucational technology into the public schools and increase the number of students with access to such technology.
