State Technology Contacts 32.154 through 156 Online Courses On-line courses may be made available through portal subject to review by the agency and approval by the commissioner. In coordinating and developing courses, priority shall be given to courses not readily available to students and for which there is a critical need. On-line courses must be aligned with state curriculum requirements. The agency may develop quality assurance criteria to be used in developing and reviewing courses, including components relating to course content, instructor qualifications, validity of assessment procedures, security features and degree of interactivity. The agency may develop and adopt strategies for making textbooks available in an electronic format through the portal or through other means as an alternative or supplement to traditional textbooks. Finally, the agency may award scholarships for the costs of an on-line course. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/ed.toc.htm V.T.C.A. 32.033 Integrated Telecommunications System Instructs the agency to design and implement a telecommunications system for distance learning throughout the state. The State Board of Education is to conduct feasibility studies on the telecommunications capabilities of school districts and regional education service centers.
