Organization Profile:
The Back Bay Science Center (BBSC), located on Shellmaker Island at Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve is managed by the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) and is one of the best, yet mostly undiscovered, marine/watershed field educational sites in Orange County.
Located in the heart of a 752 acre coastal wetland, the BBSC offers great educational opportunities for schools (kindergarten – college). Some of the outstanding features of the our site include a large parking area, educational lab, educational dock, access to educational research vessels, educational amphitheater, restrooms, perimeter trail and picnic tables that can accommodate up to 120 participants.
