Description: Co-Facilitator is Janette Duffin. This is a group of chemistry teachers from the Davis and Weber school districts. Our experience level varies from more than ten years to second year teachers. Some members of our group are currently using Corel Presentations in their classrooms. We will be preparing Presentations and accompanying lab and activity materials for different topics from the Core Curriculum.

Group Project Activity Report:
7th Meeting
We met at Viewmont High School on Friday, May 23 to put the finishing touches on the Periodic Table Presentation. Copies were made for each participant and an additional copy was made for the Utah State Office of Education so that the presentation will be pubished to the state office website for use by other teachers.

Group Project Activity Report:
First Meeting
Date: October 24, 2002 Location: Layton High School. The group discussed teacher needs to develop project ideas. It was decided to choose topics from the new Utah State Chemistry Core Curriculum and develop Corel Presentations as well as other coordinating materials. The emphasis will be on demonstrations, desktop activities and labs. The first topic chosen was Standard I, Objective 3, dealing with the periodic table. Group members will collect ideas, notes, existing presentations and meet again at Layton High School on November 21.

Group Project Activity Report:
Fourth & Fifth Meetings
Technical difficulties were encountered in our fourth meeting on February 21. It was decided to meet at the computer lab at Viewmont High School on Saturday, March 1. At the March 1 meeting the first three sections of the Periodic Table presentation were compiled and edited. The sections are 1.History and background, 2.Organization of the table and 3. Electron configuration. The fourth section will be on periodic trends. We will meet again at Viewmont High School on Saturday, March 29 at 9:00am to complete the presentation. At that time we will make CD's for learning community participants and plans to publish the presentation on the web.

Group Project Activity Report:
Second & Third Meetings
The learning community members met on November 21 and January 24 to review materials gathered. The final version of the periodic table presentation will be a compilation of the three presentations reviewed. Additional materials included an activity project and a crossword puzzle. Links to these will be provided. The group will meet again on February 21 to compile the presentation.

Sixth Meeting, March 29, 2003
We met at Viewmont High School to continue compiling and editing the presentation. The majority of the presentation is now complete, with only two more topics of the core for the periodic table to edit. We will meet again on May 16 to finish.
