Welcome

Welcome to the WestEd Quality Matters! Invitational Regional Conference Web site. In the resource library, you will find a selected list of teaching quality readings and links that you can view or download, as well as session handouts from the conference presenters.

The WestEd Quality Matters! Invitational Regional Conference, held in November, 2004, provided a forum for dialogue to inform action on some of the most critical issues of teaching quality and closing the teaching gap.

Research confirms that good teaching is vital to student success. The No Child Left Behind Act requirements build on this conclusion. Unfortunately, students in high-poverty settings, central urban areas, and remote rural locations typically have less access to high-quality teaching and are more likely to have teachers without full credentials, in their earliest years of teaching, and/or without deep content knowledge. Quality Matters! hosted a select group of state and local policymakers, leaders in institutions of higher education, key stakeholders, and regional and national experts to discuss the complex question of what it will take to get the best teachers where they are needed most.

Conference Sessions and Overview Schedule
