Preparation to Succeed in Challenging Settings

|
| Description: | Beginning teachers, like those entering any profession, need an induction phase; a developmental process in which they receive ongoing support, formative assessments, opportunities for professional growth, and a means of receiving continuing feedback during the first few years. Such support can keep new teachers in the classroom and turn disillusionment into enthusiasm. This session focuses on successful beginning teacher induction support and identifies program components that lead to high-quality teaching.
Inquiry Questions:
- What are the characteristics of effective teacher induction programs?
- What adaptations might be needed in hard-to-staff schools with concentrations of new teachers?
- How can effective induction programs be supported at the state and local levels?
