Preparation to Succeed in Challenging Settings
Retaining and Investing in High-Quality Teachers: Creating the Conditions that Support Success

|
| Description: | Many rural communities face enormous challenges in attracting, preparing, and keeping high-quality teachers. Low salaries, isolation, multiple-subject assignments, and limited opportunities for training are all barriers to rural teacher recruitment and quality. This session builds on the example of a regional collaborative in Kern County, California, where districts, counties, and universities are developing innovative, effective approaches to solving their teacher shortage problems.
Inquiry Questions
- How are rural teacher-quality partnerships formed and sustained?
- What are the key features of successful rural teacher-quality partnerships?
- How can states support regional partnerships?
