Biography
As Founder and Co-Director of Public Impact, an education policy consulting firm, Hassel conducts research and consults nationally on charter schools and the comprehensive reform of public schools. He has studied accountability in special education, comprehensive school reform, and teacher quality issues. His publications on teacher quality include Better Pay for Better Teaching, a policy brief on teacher compensation for the Progressive Policy Institute; tools for planning professional development; and an analysis of the merits of a "portfolio of providers" strategy for teacher development, in which states cultivate and monitor a diverse portfolio of preparation programs. Hassel works with the Education Commission of the States on an initiative to encourage the growth of charter districts.
