![]() Speaker Daniel Humphrey Associate Director SRI International Center for Education Policy 333 Ravenswood Avenue Menlo Park, CA 94025-3493 daniel.humphrey@sri.com Biography For more than a decade, Daniel Humphrey has researched state and federal education policy, teacher development, urban education, and education reform. At the SRI International Center for Education Policy, Humphrey directs several major national studies on teacher development issues. He is the principal investigator for the Carnegie Corporation-sponsored study, Alternative Certification: A National Study, designed to establish standards for effective alternative certification programs. Humphrey is also the co-principal investigator for The Impact of National Board Certified Teachers on Low-Performing Schools. In addition, he is the senior researcher on the ongoing landmark study, Teaching and California's Future, which brings the problems associated with the state's teacher shortage to the attention of policymakers. He is the principal evaluator for the California State University at Northridge's grant to Teachers for a New Era, a major initiative sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation to improve teacher preparation. Humphrey has led major studies of various federal programs for the U.S. Department of Education, including the Federal Class-Size Reduction Program, the State Grant and Recruitment Grant Programs of Title II of the Higher Education Act, the State Curriculum Frameworks Projects, and the Eisenhower Regional Consortium Programs for Mathematics and Science Education. Previously, Humphrey was a lead researcher on the Statewide Systemic Initiative for the National Science Foundation.
