How do I access the "NSTA database?"
- To access the database, you need to know your ID#. This was automatically assigned to you when you were entered in the system. You can get your ID# from your Key Leader, or go to http://www.nsta.org/bap/, and click on "Forgot your ID number?" Your ID will be emailed to you.
- Go to http://www.nsta.org/bap/. Login with you last name and ID#, selecting Point of Contact for Type.
- Once logged in, you have the following options:
- View the California message board where you can communicate with your state's Building a Presence participants
- Edit your contact info where you can update your email, contact information, and add information about what you teach.
- E-mail your Key Leader
- E-mail other Points of Contact in your area, also assigned to your Key Leader
- E-Blast Archive of messages/announcements from NSTA
I'm changing schools – can I still be a POC?
Your Key Leader can change your POC assignment to your new school. (If it is one of your KL's schools, s/he can also let you know if there's already a POC at that school.) We would also appreciate it if you can find another teacher at your old school to take over as POC, so the teachers there continue to get information from CABAP. Please let your Key Leader know about your plans as soon as possible. If you can't contact your KL, please contact Libby, lrognier@wested.org, with your new contact information.
Teachers at my school have never seen the Science Standards or Framework. Other than following our science textbooks, what should we be teaching?
We have provided a resource on this site to correlate the CA 4th and 5th grade adopted texts and FOSS with the CA standards. (Not everything in your science text is in the CA Science standards.)
In addition, both the Standards and the Framework are available, free, online from the California Department of Education at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/.
You might want to go through them as grade-level groups of teachers, or ask the Science Curriculum Specialist from your District Office to come and talk to your teachers about the standards for your grade levels.
Do you have other questions, ideas or suggestions to share? Send them to Libby Rognier, lrognier@wested.org, or send us a comment.
