California Science Teachers Association The California Science Education Conference Web site is a project of the California Science Teachers Association (CSTA) in partnership with WestEd. CSTA has sponsored an annual conference for several years and began to use the Web to deliver conference planning, registration, and membership renewal services more efficiently.

Over the years, the conference organizers have upgraded the conference Web site from a brochure that delivered information to a robust system that allows them to manage their membership process and conference details while delivering more services to attendees. Attendees can now start a new membership or renew an existing one online as well as pay the conference fee, reserve housing, and find workshops and events. Collecting information online from attendees spares organizers the onerous task of entering this data for over 2,000 people. Moreover, having this information in a database allows conference organizers to export the information into other applications for other tasks such as printing badges and sending letters to attendees. By adding these tools to the Web site, the organization consolidated two of its major activities – managing its membership and registering conference attendees.
