San Diego Science Alliance (SDSA) The San Diego Science Alliance is a non-profit consortium of leaders from business, K-12 education, higher education and scientific institutions in San Diego County that is committed to enhancing science literacy in K-12 education. Given their reach and base of support, the staff wanted an easy way to send targeted information to groups of people based on their educational interests, subject, and grade level. WestEd staff developed a system that allows SDSA staff to collect this information on a registration form used by new members of the site. Each member completes a member profile that can be updated at any time and this information, in turn, is collected in a database. SDSA staff sends announcements about particular resources and events to the right people by using a search form that contains specific criteria and then creating a customized announcement. They also have the ability to test send and edit the message before sending it to their members. The solution developed for SDSA has been employed with other projects that share the same need to target information to their members. In this way, the solution has become a model for other organizations to use and refine. |
