Resources for Local Accountability

The Resources for Local Accountability were designed by WestEd for the California Department of Education to help school districts develop a comprehensive local accountability system that addresses standards and supports continual improvement in adult and student learning.


Designing a Local Accountability System

The design includes three essential categories of indicators: Student Learning, Teacher Progress and Effective Leadership.


Elements of A Comprehensive Local Accountability System

Description of six essential elements and accountability indicators embedded within the basic design of a local accountability system.


School District Accountability Practices

Overview followed by samples of district tools, products, and processes.

Local Accountability Systems

A definition of a local standards-based accountability system and district and school roles.


Federal and State Accountability Systems

Overview of major federal and state accountability legislation.


Project Overview

Project description and preview of the major components.


Resources

Summaries of articles and books, guides for self-assessing the local system, database software selection, and practical ideas and tools for developing accountability indicators and methods for multi-year analysis of student achievement.
